The Five Questions To Ask Yourself Before Building A Patio
It’s a good idea to carefully consider every aspect of your future patio. At Patio Perfect, we have experience in advising our customers on what matters for their project. Here are a few questions to get you thinking about your ideal patio.
Every house is different, every home is different, every person is different in what they want out of their home. If you are considering installing a patio, what are you hoping it will bring to your home? Do you need to shelter cars from the weather? Do you want a shaded area for your kids to play? Do you plan to entertain guests often? Do you need electrical appliances and/or plumbing to integrate into the area? Do you want it to be an extension of your home, or do you want to it be an island getaway at the back of your yard? The more specific you are with your desires, the easier it will be to design a patio that meets your needs.
If you have a smaller yard, this may be less of a consideration as you will be restricted by extant limitations. However, if your property is larger or your yard has multiple entry points that could accommodate a patio, it may be worthwhile considering which location is best suited to the patio you want. If you are planning to entertain, it may be advisable to place the patio nearer to the kitchen, whereas if you intend the patio to a great hide-a-way for your dogs while you entertain, you may prefer to put entry through the laundry. This is also important to consider in combination with the size of the patio you have in mind.
It’s important to consider the style of your house, and how the patio will blend in with the look. As we mentioned in our previous blog (link) style is a crucial aspect of your design, and your house will largely dictate the look of your patio to ensure there is visual consistency. This can be achieved by matching the colour and design of your house, or by contrasting them to make your patio really ‘pop’.
Failing to abide by the local council laws and by-laws can be costly and time consuming. It is important to ensure you have a permit where necessary, and you complete the appropriate paperwork as required to ensure a smooth application process and quick processing of your application. Patio Perfect is experienced in applying and managing permit application processes, and will handle this aspect of your build for you.
